It was the morning of 29th march 2011. At 8:15am, Akshya Tyagi, a student of First Year of Electronics an Communication branch of IIIT Allahabad was run over by the bus, when the bus was getting reversed without a conductor and without use of horn. The student died on the spot in a cruel manner.
the driver ran away from the spot assisted by guards and mess staff.
Akshya was a brilliant student who comes from an economically weak family & has already lost his father.
The administration of college reached the premise, Naini Hostel of IIIT Allahabad, which is around 25km away from main campus and maintained separately for First Year Students. As the authorities reached the venue, they adviced the students to refrain from filing an F.I.R against the institute. As stated by the students present in Naini Hostel, when the students were not ready to give in to the authoratative words, the competent authority called up the parents of the eye wittnesses and complained that their kids were causing riots in college. But as stated by the students, when they came to know of the misguiding FIR filed, students got agitated, then the students claim to have gone to the police station to correct the FIR. The body was also sent for post mortem. The college was not declared close to mourn the death.
The next day, 30th March 2011 the cremation took place in the presence of family members, students and college officials. But the family was not told the correct version of how the incident took place.
On 31st March 2011, Morning 11am there was a candle march for the deceased soul and the students put forth few demands including
-compensation for the family
-correcting the media reports of this incident as their were all sort of discrepancies in the reports.
-improving the health and living conditions of the all the hostels of the institute.
-And an ambulance at the disposal of students at any moment of time.
-dropping the naini hostel.
The students reported that the Director announced that "the family had rejected a compensation of 50 lakh ruppees" but when later the students called to confirm with the family, the mother of the demised informed that she was never approached by IIITA adminstration. Since then, the students have assembelled outside the adminstration building and put forth their protest and their demands.
the administration is being very unresponsive and insensitive to the issue and has been trying to crush the peace protest of the students.

Please keep updating the blog with all the news that is happening in IIIT-A Campus (with photos and youtube videos or any other kind of proofs).
This could be the one source of information where all the truth can be found.

very disheartening situation ...
if this is happening at top most colleges in the country then what can we expect from others ...
I think this is the time to wake up and answer in face the authorities, for we can't really just see things in a blindly manner.
Was the driver also related to the director somehow? is he roaming out freely or some legal action has been taken in response to the irresponsive behaviour of the driver that killed an innocent boy. And the administration is also responsible as they hire such negligent drivers...
