Agitation at IIITA Allahabad

I am from a premier institute of this country and I am fairly proud of it but I must say, not it's people, politics is a dirty thing , we all know that , but it is a neccessary evil , I am not a journalist but I will try to present a point of view that no newspaper presented on reccent incidents on my institution, Indian Institute of Information Technology, a coveted institution , forerunner in Information Technology and home to more death's that I saw of people I know compared to my own city(I am from ghaziabad which as some points out a very dangerous place and I am not counting natural deaths), let's view each incident one by one,

1. my batchmate
 she was a classmate and a very bright student , one of the toppers of my batch, let's not talk about my college's involvement.

2. a PG student
died because of college's administration reluctance to provide a cab or bus to take him to a hospital, to provide some background  my college is in outer parts of allahabad and closest and reasonable(facility-wise) hospitable is more than 20 kilometers, and if someone is ill college have a doctor on premise to provide care but just leave emergency out of picture.



3. Akshay Tyagi
I am publishing name of this student because he is the latest face of college's administration's neglect and an ongoing cover-up, cause of death -  killed by a bus and I must include a little tidbit of information , the bus was the institute's bus, it might be considered the last straw for student body getting agitated by corrupt administration, I am not naming anyone because I do not have the proof, but you can add corrupt in front of any government body in India and is considered an open secret, student talked to administration about what had happened and the response they got is from http://timesofindia.indiatimes.com/city/allahabad/articleshow/7835383.cms

Angered over the recent death of a fellow student in an accident, hundreds of students of Indian Institute of Information Technology here took out a candle march from the boys' hostel on Thursday and staged a dharna outside the main administrative building of the institute.
The students demanded a probe into the death of Akshaya Tyagi, a BTech first year student of IIIT-A. They also sought compensation for the victim's family including a job for his brother at IIIT-A.

Akshaya was run over by the institute's bus when he was trying to board it.

The students also demanded shifting of the first year hostel from Naini to Jhalwa campus and medical facilities including a permanent ambulance for the hostel.

The students refused to lift the dharna despite assurance from IIIT-A director MD Tiwari to look into the demands.
I must add that director also threatened to throw student out of hostel, if they don't go away, incidentally journalism can be biased if you cannot move a muscle and your editor wants a political figure in favorable light

Some students also tried to force their entry inside the main building and in doing so damaged the glass entrance door, said IIIT-A spokesperson Pankaj Mishra.
the director of institution should be readily accessible to students if they want to talk to him/her, here after several hours they got empty assurances so they try to pursuade director to meet him, in which a small piece of glass was broken, this piece of report is clearly here to show student's on bad light
Apprehending vandalism, the institute authorities informed the police which arrived on the spot and prevented the situation from taking an ugly turn.
the police came before the director so incidentally he is more of a busy man then SSP, Magistrate and CRO, if they tried to talked to even 1 student then they must have known that administration sent an impostor as victim's mama(uncle) to ask student to let it go, any active journalism with a shed of integrity and ethics can found this out.


Meanwhile, in a statement issued on Thursday evening, IIIT-A spokesperson Pankaj Mishra said the institute has accepted the demand of students regarding deputing an attendant along with a driver on the institute buses ferrying students. Besides, the institute would also provide monetary compensation to Akshay's family, he added.
this is a general demand and it's not like it is met, we were asking for this since the time I was in first year(4 year's back) and probably even before that, and regarding compensation they said it is 50 lakh but probably babus got a cut from it and later it was announced to be 5 lakhs, but we all know money cannot replace life not even a little bit , student are not there for money , they want them to own their mistake and not feeding media with false reports


Further, a committee headed by senior faculty member Prof RC Tripathi and chief proctor, warden, students representatives and assistant registrar finance has already been constituted to examine the issues raised by students. IIIT-A is also considering providing a job to Akshay's brother on sympathetic grounds.
I don't know what committees do , and more importantly what a committee can investigate comprising of individuals who cannot understand law to investigate injustice


As regards shifting of the existing boys hostel, Mishra said the construction of a seven-storeyed boys' hostel and a four-storeyed girls' hostel at Jhalwa campus has started and added that they would be completed within one and a half years after which the problem of accommodation for students would be sorted out.
just dig out the records and you will find a tale of corruption talking about facilities, when I was there it was a 5 story building , I think they added 2 top floors just to emulate the 7-star feel


Despite repeated efforts, IIIT-A director was not available for comments. 

and when he did he threatened student's about placement or whatever crap he deemed important in a diplomatic way
